Great Lakes Loons Add Several New Faces to Team, Release Updated Roster

The Great Lakes Loons begin a four-game homestand today against the West Michigan Whitecaps with several new faces on the team’s roster.

Catcher Alex Garabedian has been promoted by the Dodgers to the High-A Inland Empire 66ers of the California League.  Garabedian was hitting .267 with the Loons with three home runs and 21 RBIs.

The Dodgers have added two new players to the Loons’ roster, left-handed pitcher Juan Cedeno and catcher Jessie Mier.  Cedeno spent this season in the Tigers’ organization.  The lefty went 3-2 with a 4.64 ERA in Double-A Erie in 28 games.  In four games with High-A Lakeland, Cedeno allowed one earned run in 6 1/3 innings.  He also has played in the Red Sox and Royals’ organizations and has played in Double-A in each of the past four seasons.

Mier, from Ponoma, CA, attended Lewis and Clark University and was drafted by the Dodgers’ in the 12th round of the 2007 draft.  He was hitting .272 with a homer and seven RBIs this season with the Ogden Raptors (Short Season, Pioneer League).

Brian Mathews, who was on the Loons’ disabled list, has joined the Gulf Coast League Dodgers.

Mier and Cedeno will be active for tonight’s game.  Cedeno is scheduled to start on the mound Wednesday.
